Walton Laptop Waxjambu – A worthy buy?

Back on this October the giant conglomerate of Bangladesh Walton revealed 4 new lines of laptop via a Facebook post – Passion, Tamarind, Karnoda and Waxjambu. For quite a long time the company is dominating the consumer electronics market of Bangladesh. But for the first time Walton is going to hit the biggest section of it — the computer market.

Walton has unveiled just 1 variant of the Waxjambu line which is Waxjambu WW176H7B. Crafted with a core-i7 6700HQ and Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M inside, Walton is desperately pushing the Waxjambu as a gaming laptop.

Design of Walton Waxjambu: Elegant but not Portable

The Walton Waxjambu comes with a really impressive elegant rubber coated cover design which gives it a nice gaming touch. With a dimension of 413 X 285 X 31.9mm, the laptop doesn’t look as sleek as some of its competitors & sister models. And the 6.39lbs /2.9 KG weight also make it quite heavy. These two surely do harm the portability of the laptop. But considering it as a gaming laptop this isn’t a big issue unless you compare it with Razer’s upcoming Blade which perfectly blends performance and portability together.

The keyboard of Walton Waxjambu comes with Bangla-layout [Bijoy] alongside with English. The keyboard of Waxjambu is also integrated with white backlit which, to be honest, it doesn’t make any sense to me. Why white when they are desperately pushing this device as a gaming laptop? At least from my point of view the color white never beef up with gamers. The touchpad, however, brings usual goodies like multi-gesture and scrolling function.

The laptop features 3 x USB 3 ports and even a USB 3.1 Type C port alongside with other basic I/O ports.

Display of Walton Laptop – Waxjambu: The “Full HD IPS Matte LCD Screen” says HELLO!

Walton ‘s gaming laptop features 17.3 inch Full HD IPS Matte LCD display. This 1920 x 1080 screen comes with a ratio of 16:9. A Full HD IPS Matte LCD screen ensure more accurate, saturated and consistent color. Matte screens have an anti-glare glare applied to them which absorbs reflection and give better visibility both in indoor and outdoor. Walton also claiming all these features as a part of the device but though we need to a hands on first to judge it properly.

Hardware of Walton Waxjambu: Insanely.. Underpowered!

The Walton Waxjambu is powered by a 6th gen Intel Core-i7 6700 HQ Quad Core processor clocked at 2.69 GHz. A Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M with 2 GB VRAM is packed inside to juice up your game. Honestly, I’m not impressed here. GTX 960M surely is a powerful card but talking about the price, this “new walton laptop ” really should have something better than this. Or even at least the 4 GB version of 960M though it doesn’t make that much difference. Well, keep it in mind that 960M is not like Desktop 960. It’s more like the desktop 750ti.

On the other hand 1 TB HDD with a low 4200 rpm is another letdown. Clearly, this device lacks a Solid State Drive (SSD). A combo of 128 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD was the perfect match for this device. The lack of SSD not only harms its price per performance ratio but also blocks user to get the full advantage of the i7 6700 and GTX 960M. However, the 8 GB Dual Channel DDR4 Ram, is an “OK”.

Battery life, Audio & Communication of Walton Waxjambu:

Walton has equipped their Waxjambu with 6 cells Smart Lithium-Ion battery pack which give it a 6.3-hour battery life. The laptop has two built-in 2W speakers, microphone, and similar goodies to produce quality audio that is needed during a gaming or movie session. A 2.0 MP camera is in the laptop to provide sharp image quality. Ethernet Lan, Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260 and similar core stuff is naturally present in the device.

Early Verdict: Walton Laptop Waxjambu. Is it worth the money?

Waxjambu WW176H7B is the most Powerful and Elegant laptop that Walton is offering to its consumer at this moment. On the contrary, it’s also the most expensive one with a price tag of BDT – 89,550 [Online Promotion Price is 87,759]. The biggest question which appears at this point is, Is it worth it? – Not completely. Comparing its price to performance ratio, it lacks in several parts. A better Graphics card and Storage was needed to balance that ratio. 4200 RPM is really ugly for any kinds of machine. I mean come on Walton, it’s not 2002/2004 nor an iPod. It’s awful. The white backlight also doesn’t feel suitable for its character. Walton surely is an established and trustworthy company for other electronic products. They have always been well known for giving quality product in affordable price. But this time the price doesn’t match up with what the product will give in return. Besides, they are still new in this laptop market. Many other established companies like Asus, Acer, Dell or Lenovo has similar products in this price range offering a better price per performance ratio. Walton should think again regarding this matter otherwise many consumers will surely reverse from buying it.
